Another year goes by...

Once again we had some great family time in NOVA for the holidays. A favorite memory was visiting Government Island historical park in Stafford.

"Government Island is an historic 18th and 19th century quarry site that provided Aquia sandstone for the construction of the White House and the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C." (from web site) These cousins always have such a blast together!

Back home the kids are enjoying their camouflage! (Thanks Mamaw Vickie for the outdoor camo..and to my parents for the Army Camo! They eat, sleep, and live in it!)

A lot has happened in the last month. We enjoyed many Christmas festivities here in Savannah with loved ones and then were able to make a trip up to VA to visit family on Christmas day for a week. We arrived home to bring in the new year! We are not sure where we will be bringing in the new year next year , but hope to hear soon.

Last week a home in our neighborhood burned to the ground. The family of 9 were all safe thankfully, though they lost everything including their family dog. The community has really rallied around them. It is very sad, though we are thankful that no one was hurt! Keeping this family and the many others who have had tragic losses already this month in our prayers. It was interesting, the day this fire happened I had a moment in my own home. I was cleaning the kitchen when I briefly stopped to look around our home. I wondered, what would we do if a fire came and we lost everything? I looked around our nice cozy home and thanked God for the many blessings. Then prayed for the strength and mind set to hold loosely to stuff and to be good steward of our resources.

On a much lighter note, we are excited and hope David Isaac gets his cast off tomorrow. Though having a broken arm has been frustrating for him at times, he has been amazing rarely complaining. There has been some good learning factors as well. He has had to slow down a bit and notices others easier who have similar pains. Though I don't know how many times David and I have told him, "Stop Isaac! Slow down! Do you want to break your other arm?!" We also have to watch him like a hawk b/c he still tries to swing and climb with the broken arm! BOYS i tell you! This is the latest cast, hopefully to be removed tomorrow! At a park in Savannah this week waiting to pick up Isaac from school. We will miss the beautiful Spanish Moss trees when we move.

We are enjoying the season! Each day the kids wake up excited for their chocolate calendars that Grandmama got them for an early Christmas gift. They are counting down the days to the grand celebration of the greatest gift in human history...the birth of our Savior.

Thanksgiving day! Thanks to David's CH asst, she was my fabulous side-kick in the kitchen. She also made a tasty Puertican style dish. Yum! And thanks Terry for going to Walmart with me late night and for keeping me focused to get last minute supplies.

We had Military Marriage Retreat this past weekend at Hilton Head. It was great to get away with the family and to get to know and encourage other military families. David did a great job teaching through the 5 Love Languages among other materials. Thanks to all of those who kept the weekend and families in your prayers. We continue to pray for these families, that God's love, truth, peace, joy, hope, power and very presence would permeate our homes.

Isaiah 61:1-2 "The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to teh poor, He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives, and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor..."

Adventures in Parenting!

Izzie G turns 4 this Sunday, October 16th! She likes to help make waffles, this is Monday morning, Columbus Day.

Monday early evening, Isaac broke his arm on the play ground:( This is his permanent cast he got put on Tuesday morning (ER did temporary cast). He is STRONG and COURAGEOUS! Josh 1:9

Back to school on Wednesday! His teacher said he didn't complain once about his arm. Brave boy.It's helped him to SLOW down too and pay attention a bit better.

Thankful for good doctors and modern day medicine. Also thankful for family and friends who constantly support us physically and lift us up in prayer. Thanks to Terry and Liz who watched Izzie and Soli Monday night so David and I could take Isaac to the ER. And for the many constant prayers of friends and family. Thankful for a God who never leaves us nor forsakes us. To a God who "carries us to the heighths". Habakkuk 3

Daivd Isaac came home from the ER that night and starting singing songs to God on his own. He actually made up some new verses to the "Jesus-Jesus" song. If you know the chorus he added,

"Be GLAD in HIM, Glad in HIM, Glad in the morning, Glad in the noon-time, Glad in HIM, Glad in HIM, Glad when the sun goes down!"

Family visit to the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum - an excellent museum show casing the Mighty Eighth from World War II. This Air force from Savannah was very instrumental in bringing an end to the war in Germany. The whole family enjoyed and we paid our respects to the fallen hero's at the many memorial stones in their memorial garden.

David and I celebrated our 7th Wedding Anniversary in September. Since David has been in the military we have been in different states or countries for our actual anniversary day. This September David was at NTC in California training, so some girlfriends and I celebrated together. :) We went to a festival at the Meinhardt Winery in Statesboro, GA. Thanks Faith and Stephanie!! (And to Emily and Hunter who watched the kids!!!)

Back at the Mighty Eighth Museum...this time with Mamaw Vickie and Grandma Westbrook from Louisianna. I was thankful for their visit the last week before David got home. It was a light at the end of the tunnel!!!

Colorado in May

My childhood piano teacher, Cassie, had a mission from God :) to get me to Colorado for a conference retreat getaway. It was wonderful to catch up with her and a true gift to have a couple of days to be still in the beautiful state of Colorado. I joined other military spouses and family members at Glen Eyrie Castle for an encouraging weekend. Isaiah 61:1-3

Much love and thanks to Cassie, my parents, and to my husband and kids.

So do not fear for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isiaah 41:10

Ash Wednesday – 40 days of Lent

“Repent and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:15
Fasting from our flesh and world to feast on the Word and Person of God – Jesus Christ.

Today, Ash Wednesday is a day of repentance. True repentance results in a change of mind and heart, and ultimately a change in action. When one “repents” he “turns away” from previous sinful behaviors and seeks salvation & restoration from God. “Ash Wednesday derives its name from the practice of placing ashes on the foreheads of adherents as a sign of mourning and repentance to God.” (Wikipedia) Today (really any day one can get serious about seeking God!!) Christians all over the world are called to mourn for their sinful state, turn away from their sins and to the living God. (Matt 5:4) It is a day to get serious and examine our hearts before God. King David wrote, “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way of everlasting! (Psalm 139:23-24) In the New Testament we see an example of true repentance when Peter weeps after coming to his realization of his own rejection of Jesus. (Luke 22:62) Do we not reject Christ daily when neglect Him? Do we not reject God when we live consumed with ourselves and our selfish ways?

I believe this act of repentance is in direct contrast with our pleasure seeking, self indulgent culture. It’s not fun and it’s not an easy thing to do. True repentance is a gift from God. I pray that God would have mercy on us and open our eyes to our true states. That He would show us our need for repentance and lead us to Himself. “Behold, now is the favorable time; behold now is the day of salvation.” (2 Cor. 6:2)

Ash Wednesday ushers us into the season of Lent and ultimately prepares us for the commemoration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Lent is a time of sacrifice, prayer, giving, and fasting. All of this is to draw us close to Him as we prepare to celebrate the most miraculous event that has taken place in history – the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We celebrate with joy the way God has provided salvation for all people who will receive it. (John 1:12) Regardless if Lent is a normal practice of your Christian faith, each of us could benefit from decreasing ourselves so that God may increase in us. (John 3:30)
As we enter this season of Lent 2011, I pray that God would pour down His righteousness and awaken His people. May we not merely go through the motions! Let’s own our faith, read His Word, and follow Him.

On the homefront we are almost settled and await David's return. The kids are doing good. God has blessed us above and beyond with a church that is full of Life and is making a difference in the community and world. God is moving and there is an awakening it seems going on in the hearts of people here (& hear stories from places all over the world). At our church we had close to 270 people get baptized in the last few weeks. The Word of God was preached (passages in Acts) and people responded getting baptized in their Sunday clothes and all. Whatever your beliefs on baptism, it's exciting to see people step out of their comfort zone and make a bold confession that Christ is Lord. Praying that God would open the eyes of His people and give us His love, courage, strength, and peace as we seek His face & walk in His ways. Praying Psalm 24 too.

Thank you for your prayers. Please continue to pray for our soldiers and for military families...especially for reintegrations going on all over the place. Also praying for our nation & leaders.

Haven't posted anything in a while and then just posted 3 long ones!! Sorry about that family:)

Anyway, we are slowly but surely getting settled in Savannah. We have a wonderful church and neighborhood. We still miss Va beach - the beach, family, and friends, - the kids still talk about it too. But we are getting use to our new home and know God has a plan and purpose for us here. We are also excited to be in the place where David will be coming home to. The kids look at the helicopters military planes and ask, "Is daddy on that one??!!" I keep telling them - after Isabella's birthday party, then we will start looking for daddy's plane.

Soon, but still not soon enough, the kids and I will be running into his arms!! Until then, we keep focus and take it all one moment at a time!

God is our refuge and strength; a very present help in trouble!

He carries us through!

From Sugar Hill to The Chesapeake

My brave Grandparent's after they said goodbye to their home of 40 or so years. A home that my Grandpa built. A home in an area rich with family history. Though it was a sad day, it was also a blessed day spending time with family and comforting to know my Grandparents are in a place they will be better taken care of.

Praying that Grandma and Grandpa's time at the Chesapeake will be filled with the presence of God. They know this is their last home until God takes them to their real HOME in Heaven. Each day is a gift and there is purpose in it no matter how young or old. Don't waste your life chasing after the wind, but surrender to the God who formed and loves you.

My cousin is visiting from Ohio and has been in "military wife" boot camp. She's been such a gift and blessing from God. It's so nice to have some extra hands around the house and with the kids. We've had some fun adventures together too...

She is quite the gardner and gave me some good tips with my potted plants and we also planted a couple together. Here are the beautiful gerber daisies

So Vivian has learned what military wives know - it seems everything breaks when your spouse is deployed. We have had a broken washing machine (in which I got my first traffic ticket driving to meet the repair man at the gate). Currently we have a broken computer, camera, drill, truck, and lawn mower..among other things... Pictured is Ms. Vivian modeling the lovely little over a year and yet broken lawn mower.

We took turns with the weed eater...exciting stuff!

Thankfully, David had a back up drill...it was hard work mounting the flag mount :)

But we did it! It was in a rather awkward spot and pretty hilarious to watch us do this together.

Mother Daughter Tea - Snugs Harbor Little Creek Navy base

An early Mother's day celebration for myself, mom, and grandma. As we were enjoying the festivities and talking about "mother's and daughter's" it hit me that we all 3 were wives of military men....all at very different times in history. We have World War 11, Vietnam, and now our present war.

It's been a little while and it seems a lot has happened the last few months. David Isaac turned 4 in March. Our dear friends - Tanika and kiddos - moved away late March. We both had husbands gone so did A LOT together. We've missed them dearly and the kids still ask to go over to their house. We enjoyed great visit with David and was even harder this time to say goodbye with 6.5 more months to go. We're hoping he will be home for good by early November and look forward to Savannah, GA (though we will miss Va Beach and luxury of being close to family)!!

The kids are growing so fast and I"m constantly reminded of the need to embrace and cherish these days.

I had a special delivery from someone special in Afghanistan....(Thanks Big D, you're the best! We love you and praying for you daily)

My parents came for a quick visit Friday. Dad had some business close by and mom stayed with us. We had a great time just hanging out. The kids took turns jumping all over Pop-pop. He was their personal jungle gym. I was blessed to be taken out to dinner and had groceries delivered! Thanks mom and dad! *sorry Grammama, didn't have a picture of you on my camera! :(

We had a snowy weekend. Church was canceled so we had a little kids church at our home with neighbors. Fun stuff.

We are doing good on the homefront and thankful to God. He takes care of us and "never lets us go". Though we still have our challenges, God is faithful and He keeps us in His hands.

We miss David and look forward to seeing him for 2 weeks in April. David is working hard and staying busy. David and the soldiers over there have so many hardships...as do the families on the homefront. Please remember them all in your prayers.

May God's love be the source of our love and compassion for others. May we share His love (taking action) with those hurting and suffering in our families, neighborhoods, and world.

(David Isaac took this picture of us) We celebrated our 5th Anniversary last weekend - Sept 18th 2009 - woo hoo!! Let's see...5 years, 5 (working on 6th) moves, 2 hurricanes, and 3 kids...

We know it's "by grace alone"...

David gave kids soldier dolls in which I put picture of david's face on the doll. We call them "daddy dolls" and helps us keep daddy in our every day world these 16 months.
We played in the rain with our boots and then had chocolate chip cookies. (my kind of dinner:)) haha we had food too...after)

The superman crew....they tore up the house and yard but had a blast!!

Solomon super duper alert and intense all the time. Izzie just chills.

Lil d hair cut thanks to Poppop...man kids hair cuts are expensive. Thats why momma usually does it, but needed to be evened out after so many by me.

Isabella Grace turns two next month! She is very sweet and LOVEs her brothers...especially her playmate and wrestling buddy "d...d.....d.....d"

Soli James all smiles! So sweeet and teething like a champ! He is on toothie number 4 at 5 months.

We look forward to spending a couple weeks together as a family next month before saying our goodgyes. We are blessed in so many ways and one day hope to have chance to share the depths of all that God has been doing in our lives with you all. For now, we are in "survival" mode as David is very busy working with soldiers & preparing to depart. And I just change diapers, lug, and chase tots ALL DAY (and night) long. The day little D poops in the potty will be a GOOD DAY!

Mother Daughter Tea hosted by my "Women of the Chaple" group. Grandma, Mom, and I all celebrated mother's day early together. It's nice having them so close!!

It's said that you never fully appreciate your own mom until you have kids of your own. It's true for me and I've also gained new admiration for women & MOMs in general. Mother Teresa, Corrie Ten Boom, along with many women in my family are some of my heroes.

There are so many amazing hard working, servant hearted women out there who give their lives to others. This month I've been able to spend some time with my mom and mother-in-law who both fit that description. I am a blessed woman I know.

Women are strong and beautiful.

Women are so often the heart of the home and family.

Woman have the power to make huge differences in our society and world...one life at a time.

Big Daddy's Birthday

March is the bday month for the Davids. We've had a lot of FUN already this month and more to come. The movers should be here tomorrow to look at our "stuff". They pack us on Thursday and move us on Friday(we aren't moving far - just into different military housing)! Wowsers! My parents thankfully may make it down on Fri./Sat. to help especially since David will be leaving for weekend Chaplain stuff on Friday & I'm planning to make a short/sweet visit to Stafford.

The little boy is still nice and comfy in his home (thankfully:)) and I"m hoping he stays that way until we get the move and a visit to Stafford finished! I'm 37 weeks this week (9 months pregno) and next week I guess the count down will begin. I can't wait to see my sister's Jessica and Kimberly who are flying in for visits in April. And hopefully some family & friends from LA & other places sometime! LOL Summer nannies welcome - great resume builder you know:) ha

only child...:) Just kidding, he loves his little sister and each day they

wake up they go looking for the other one... every now and then he says their is no baby coming and other times he is helping decide names and excited...still not picked out:)

Izzie got a new bike for David Issac's birthday (we had to get two so they'd both have something to ride, they are sharing this one until Saturday when the Lil D gets his big wheel!)

Hope all is well in your worlds! This month (as they all do) is going too fast. We have a big week coming up. David Isaac turns 3 this Saturday, March 21st. Big D has a birthday on the 24th and then the military moves us to new housing in a week - March 26th! DAvid has a work weekend immediately after movers move us and I'm going for short visit to Stafford. Lots going on..and we are officially 9 months pregnant!!!

Each day is a gift and always always trying to keep a right focus and not get swept away in all the activity (good and bad) life brings. It can be hard.

I want to update you all and thank you for the prayers for our Army friend Maria (for those who don't know about her, please keep her in your prayers as she is facing tough times) She has been in hospital for 4 months on tubes and they are moving her to Walter Reed (sp?) in Northern VA for special treatment. Lord willing something will happen to help her get off the tubes and get her life back...and even a better life than before! She said she will never be the same and praying that God's hope will keep her looking up and moving forward. Romans 15:13

Arthur Update

I would have posted a picture of my kids sleeping in the previous blog because the book I quoted "While They Were Sleeping" talks about moms praying for kids while they are asleep. Well, I don't really have pictures of them sleeping b/c it's not a normal event. And when they do sleep (mainly at night now-and rarely all night) we are usually not too far behind them! It's a sweet little book though and we are definitely doing our best to pray for them without ceasing...anyone that knows us (especially who knew either one of us growing up) knows we have good reason to pray. :) God never ceases to amaze me with life!

All is well at the Arthur home. We are just waiting to hear when the military is moving us into different housing on base. It's suppose to be sometime in the next month, so our address will be changing once again. Hoping to be moved by April, BEFORE the next baby comes. And after the long crazy day I had today with our wild, non-stop one and two year olds - I'm thinking the baby is just fine where he is for the time being. Any "nanny's" that would like to come visit this summer...bring it on!!!

Their purpose is to Lead, Develop, Teach, and Involve others in Christian growth & service. Thier motto, "Workers for Christ". PWOC strives to be the hand and feet of Christ for Chapels & military communities.

Thank you Mamaw Vickie and Aunt Jill for watching the kids so I could attend this! Between you both, David's support, and the military helping to provide the finances, I was able to go and have an awesome weekend. God worked out all the details and it was a very special "get-away" with many "God moments". I am so thankful for God and for His provision, grace, and love.

Celebrating Life - Isabella's 1'st Birthday!!!

October 16th, 2008 we had some friends over (Morgan & Juan) and ate an Italian dinner with Cake & cupcakes!!!

Yep, she had some more cake! The following Saturday our neighbors came over to celebrate. We had a mini-pumpkin hunt and "went fishing".

These were the big kids at the party - they often play with lil D and Izzie at the playground and help out.

We enjoyed celebrating Isabella's first year of life and are thankful to God each day together! She is truly a gift. During the week of her birthday was the national day of remembrance for those who have misscarried or lost a young one. My prayers are with those families and my heart goes out to them. May the Lord bless you and keep you bringing you peace and hope.

A reminder to celebrate each day and loved one as a gift from above. It's so easy to get caught up in the rat race of life! My grandma's tells me to "take time to smell the roses" and we are doing our best to do that together in our little family!

IZZIE G big day tomorrow!

Isabella turns 1 tomorrow! yay! This is actually her brother's car seat, just practicing for when we put her's in! Notice the scab on her nose - she took a little nose dive on our front porch sidewalk. She's a tough girl though, her brother's favorite thing to do is tackle sissy every chance he can get (multiple times a day!).

For Izzie G's birthday we are sending a donation to an orphanage in Sudan in her honor (her little friends will bring a dollar too:)). This particular orphanage I learned about from a friend who is friends with the couple who started it. It's an amazing story (sad too). David Isaac started preschool this month! He is a complete mess and loves to run wild in the great out doors, so you can imagine the adjustment he is having to a structured class room. He is learning and doing great and the teacher keeps me well informed on his behavior. He is said to be a super sweet kid who asks the teachers for hugs BUT he is having a really hard time staying on his nap mat during quiet time. While most of the other kids fall asleep, Lil D is keeping his poor teacher on her toes. Ms. Carol said he is doing better but we will continue to bring the nap mat home for the weekends to practice staying on the mat!

Isabella turns one next month, October 16th. We can't believe how fast time flys. She has been walking for a couple months now and absolutely loves her big brother. She is a happy chunk of love for the most part though she gets really upset if she wakes up and no one is around. She screams the moment her eyes open up from sleep until someone comes to pick her up. She also gets upset at meal time - you better not let her plate get empty!

David and I are really enjoying the Virginia Beach area and are trying to make the most of our time here. It's hard to believe we've been here 6 months already! Most of you have probably heard the news but we found out not too long ago that we will be having another baby due April 17th. Might as well get them all out and through the diaper stage!!! We are very excited and thankful for this precious gift from God. We are both learning so much as parents - very humbling and great responsibility.
